Waiting for the bell to ring…

Remember that feeling? Imagine you're back in school. It's been a long day sitting through lectures and arithmetic. Lunch was hours ago. Now you're just watching the clock, waiting for the bell. Ah, that sweet sound of freedom. Let it ring.

Maybe that's silly, but education and freedom do go hand in hand. The more educated people are, the freer they tend to be. The best thing we can do for our kids (and ourselves, frankly) is prioritizing their education over so many other things.

Education is social, personal, and messy.

But it's worth it. It's worth fighting for, and it's worth figuring it out. Good news, recent reports suggest that many schools in America will reopen their doors to students this fall. If even in a limited capacity. This 'light at the end of the tunnel' will help our way of living in so many ways. For instance, it will take a lot of pressure off working parents. Schools reopening would recreate jobs for so many to return to. The most significant benefit to schools reopening is it'll help set our kids up for future success and prepare them for subsequent phases in life. We all know that it takes a village to raise a child. Public schooling is an institution for a reason.

Providing an equitable education is a struggle, even in the best of times. Yet, the pandemic forcing virtual learning has highlighted considerable disparities in access and education. Shout out to the entire cast of administrators, teachers, mentors, business people, and families who come together to help the learning happen in our communities. You are appreciated, and we believe your safety is paramount.
